This course provides an introduction to the MAED methodology and hands on experience using the user interface, calibrating a model, and running scenarios.

By offering training to professionals from the Global South, the Energy Modelling Platforms (EMPs) enable these countries to gather critical data, perform independent analyses, and develop credible investment proposals for clean energy infrastructure projects. EMPs play a vital role in what we refer to as local capacity building.
Hosted at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa in April and May 2025. Five teams developed national-scale models focusing on specific sectors. The teams were from Rwanda (x2), Ghana, Kenya, and Ethiopia.
Held from 12-23 August 2024 at ICTP. Two national teams developed country-specific models for specific sectors in South Africa and Uganda.
Held from 20-31 May 2024 at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. Three teams worked on national energy models for Ethiopia, Kenya, and Zambia.
